He offered rum punch and wine at his home and paid for lavish meals in taverns to bring people together. By throwing parties\, Hancock gained social and political power among various groups of people\, which repeatedly paid dividends. He smiggled maderia into Boston and one of the most violent mobs during colonial resistance defended him. DESCRIPTION:Rothe House & Garden is delighted to welcome the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum and Revolution 250 to commemorate Boston Tea Party participant and Kilkenny man\, Thomas White with a ceremonial marker\, as a part of their 250th Anniversary initiative\, the Boston Tea Party Participant Marker Project. \nThomas White emigrated to America in 1771 and joined the Sons of Liberty in Boston. Until now\, his participation in the historic Boston Tea Party has largely gone unmarked in Kilkenny\, Ireland. \nThis year marks the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party and on Sunday\, September 24th a commemorative event will take place in Rothe House & Garden\, Parliament St Kilkenny. Rothe House is an early-modern townhouse that once belonged to John Rothe\, one of the wealthiest merchants in Kilkenny. Built in 1594\, Rothe House now welcomes guests from all over the world. In addition to guided tours of the houses and collections\, Rothe House is the center for Kilkenny family history research and provides a genealogy service for those with Kilkenny roots. Lyons Chair in American History at Brooklyn College as a member of its History Department and is affiliated Faculty in the History Program of the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He specializes in the history of the American Revolution and the eighteenth century\, particularly in the seaport cities of eastern North America. SUMMARY:A Revolutionary Encounter in London: A Conversation Between Phillis Wheatley and Bejamin Franklin
DESCRIPTION:A performance of the historically-based play written and directed by Debra Wiess \nFeaturing actors Cathryn Philippe and Josiah George \nMay 8\, 1773 enslaved African poet Phillis Wheatley left Boston for London for the publication of her book of poetry Poems on Various Subjects\, Religious and Moral\, coming out later that summer.  During her 6-week stay in the British capital she was feted and entertained\, the toast of the town\, meeting many notables\, among them Benjamin Franklin. This historically-based drama depicts the little-known meeting of these two icons of American Colonial History late one summer afternoon. 2023 marks the 250th anniversary of their historic meeting\, as well as the publication of her book of poems  and her emancipation later in the year. \nThis live theatrical performance will take place at the Old South Presbyterian Church \nSunday September 17\, 2023 \n29 Federal Street \nNewburyport\, MA 01950 \nFREE General Admission (Donations greatly appreciated) \nDoors at 1:30pm \nPresentation begins at 2:00pm \nDebbie Wiess (author & director) is a Boston-based writer\, who writes plays and poetry\, in French as well as English. Her work in both languages has been presented throughout the US and abroad in traditional theatres\, alternative spaces\, on the radio\, cable and internet. She is a published author\, and several of her plays have won awards. In addition to writing\, she directs and produces\, projects and events.  She particularly enjoys writing on subjects concerning the Arts and Literature\, as well intriguing encounters. She is thrilled to be presenting her one-act play A REVOLUTIONARY ENCOUNTER IN LONDON about Phillis Wheatley and Benjamin Franklin’s meeting in London summer 1773.

DESCRIPTION:The Warren Historical Society in Warren\, Maine will host Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum Research Coordinator Kristin Harris for a presentation about the Boston Tea Party and Boston Tea Party Participant Col. Benjamin Burton. \nKristin will not only discuss the details of the Boston Tea Party\, but the process of researching the geneaological backgrounds of those involved and the challenges of creating a list of participants–many of whom swore an oath of secrecy. \nKristin Harris oversees the newly launched Boston Tea Party Descendants Program in partnership with American Ancestors/New England Historic Geneaological Society which launched in March of 2023. \nThis event takes place on: \nTuesday September 5th\, 2023 \nDr. Campbell House and Museum \n225 Main Street \nWarren\, ME 04864 \n7:00pm \n  \nAbout the speaker: \n \nKristin Harris is the Research Coordinator for the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum\, and is responsible for overseeing both the Boston Tea Party Participant Marker Program\, and the Boston Tea Party Descendants Program. Harris has been with the museum for almost 7 years\, working as an interpreter\, Lead Actor\, and Research Coordinator throughout her time there. Kristin holds an M.A. in American Studies from UMass Boston\, and a B.A. in American Studies/Early American History from Penn State Abington. Her primary area of research has involved the study of death and popular culture\, and how mourning practices and belief in the supernatural have shaped society throughout American history. \nHarris has been working in public history for over a decade\, and has worked with many historic sites\, arts programs\, and tour companies in Salem\, Massachusetts\, and consulted for the Peabody Essex Museum as a community consultant on sharing the history of the Salem Witch Trials. \nIn addition to her work with the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum\, Harris is also the consulting historian\, and co-writer for an immersive theater company\, Intramersive Media located in Salem which has been featured in the New York Times for their work in virtual game experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This historically-based drama depicts the little-known meeting of these two icons of American Colonial History late one summer afternoon. 2023 marks the 250th anniversary of their historic meeting\, as well as the publication of her book of poems  and her emancipation later in the year. \nThis live theatrical performance will take place in Abigail’s Tea Room at the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum. \nREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. He will share news of his detective work and the fascinating journey of the Boston teas as they left Canton bound for London’s East India Company warehouses and Colonial America. The world knows well how Britain’s love for tea gave rise to the crafting of countless tea things\, but history has neglected the devotion that wealthy residents of Boston\, New York\, Philadelphia\, and Charleston had for fine furniture\, silver\, and porcelain dedicated to their own tea ritual. Their thirst for tea led to a party\, a revolution\, and the birth of a nation. This year’s theme is “The Boston Tea Party” in honor of the 250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party in 2023. \nThe parade will take place in Wellesley\, MA and feature a specially themed trolley and reenactors from the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum in commemoration of this anniversary.

DESCRIPTION:2023 marks the 250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party\, an event that forever changed the course of American history. An important chapter of the Boston Tea Party story was written in New Bedford\, MA. The ship Dartmouth was built in Bedford Village (now New Bedford) in 1767 as a cargo carrying workhorse for the whaling industry. This ship would be the first to arrive in Boston’s harbor carrying the cursed East India Company tea and it’s arrival would ignite a crisis in Boston. \nJoin museum staff and Evan O’Brien\, Creative Manager of the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum for a discussion on New Bedford’s connection to the Boston Tea Party and a special reenactment and theatrical performance featuring historical interpreters from the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum. \nAudience members will participate in a dramatic Meeting of the Body of the People (in the Cook Memorial Theater)\, then follow the fife and drum players to the Bourne Building gallery to experience a recreation of the Destruction of the Tea onboard the Lagoda.
